Sam Rode
President and Founder
Sam grew up in the trades helping his father who owned a maintenance company which focused on Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC, but after working a summer for a framing contractor he developed a love for carpentry that eventually turned into what is now known as Rode Homes Inc.
On May 30th 1991 Rode Construction was born and would eventually evolve into Rode Homes Inc., and in a career spanning almost 3 decades, Sam has gathered hands on experience that ranges from carpentry and the mechanical trades, to interior finishes, cabinetry and everything in between.
Sam lives in the Livonia area with his wife and 3 children. In his spare time he coaches youth lacrosse, builds sets for high school theatre productions and enjoys both alpine and water skiing.
John Garwood
Project Manager / Estimator
Rode Homes is proud to introduce John Garwood as their new estimator/project manager. John brings a lifelong passion for building and decades of hands-on industry expertise to the Rode Homes team.
John’s journey in construction began early, spending weekends working alongside his father, and working on his grand parents dairy farm. He went on to formal trade school as a carpenter’s apprentice, building a strong foundation in the craft.
Over the years, John expanded his expertise into the commercial sector, working as a site superintendent on large-scale commercial projects across New York State before successfully transitioning into construction management and estimating.
Eager to broaden his professional experience, John is thrilled to bring his wealth of knowledge to Rode Homes, where he assists Sam with estimating and managing premier custom homes throughout the Finger Lakes region.
Outside of work, John’s greatest support and anchor is his wife of 29 years, Carla, and his son, Lincoln, whom he considers his greatest accomplishment in life. For John, every day is built on a fulfilling balance of doing what he loves and cherishing the family that supports him.
Dave Hastings
Project Manager
Dave is our Project Manager. Dave grew up in the Pittsford/Bloomfield area of upstate New York. He got into the business at the age of 19 and loved it so much that when he started working for a framing company he purchased the business in 1992! Dave brings his expertise in both general and specialty carpentry to Rode Homes and has become a huge asset to our organization. His attention to detail and quality craftsmanship are unparalleled. Dave currently lives in Bloomfield with his wife of 37 years and is the proud father of 2 sons. Dave enjoys camping and gardening.
Scott Hastings
Foreman
Scott is the job site foreman and keeps our projects running smoothly each and everyday. Born with a hammer in his hand, Scott is a master carpenter and truly an expert at what he does. His responsibilities include coordinating our subcontractors, ordering materials, verifying quality and workmanship of every job and overseeing and leading our crew. His 30+ years of experience are invaluable to our clients and if there is ever a question as to the best way to solve a problem, Scott knows the answer.
Derek Hacker
Service Department
Derek grew up in Mendon NY and attended HFL. Derek still resides in Mendon with his wife and 3 children. At a young age Derek became the Groundskeeper and Head of Maintenance at a local estate. Over the years he has garnered experience in every aspect of home maintenance and construction from carpentry, roofing and siding, to mechanicals, interior finishes and painting. Derek brings his wide ranging skill set to Rode Homes, Inc. Derek enjoys spending time with his family, renovating his home and supporting his wife’s horse hobby.
Tyler Smith
Carpenter
Tyler grew up in the home building business and has followed in his father’s footsteps. Born and raised in Naples, NY, he attended Naples HS (Go Wildcats) and onto MCC where he focused on HVAC. Currently Tyler’s center of attention is all aspects of carpentry.
When he isn’t working he likes to travel, go on hiking trips and camp. He lives in Naples with his fiancé.
Patti Matlock
Accounts Receivable
Patti is a Jersey girl transplanted to Florida where she met her husband of 34 years. Patti started working in an office environment at the age of 16 and has moved into bookkeeping, office management and accounts receivable after taking time off to raise her 2 daughters. Patti currently resides in Conesus with her husband, 4 cats and 1 parrot! After moving around the country – Florida, West Virginia and New Mexico – Patti is sold on western NY. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling!
Kristin Kester
Accounts Payable
Kristin has been with Rode Homes, Inc. for 20+ years! She lives in Bristol, NY with her husband and their 2 daughters and their 14 chickens, 2 goats and 1 dog. Kristin is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a BA in Sociology. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family on Honeoye Lake.
Dylan Rode
Assistant Project Manager
Dylan has been with Rode Homes Inc. in some capacity for his entire life. From helping his Dad surveying properties after school in his elementary years, to working part time over the summers from high school to college, it has always been a recurring constant in his life. Since graduating from Syracuse in the spring of ’24, Dylan has come onto the team full time to help in whatever way he can.
